For Keiana’s Introduction to Graphic Design course (2020), the final project was to create a brand identity from scratch. Students were tasked to create everything from a logo, to selecting typography and colors, creating custom stationery, and a designing a vehicle wrap. Rather than doing a generic subject for the project, Keiana used her passion for hockey to create a unique project concept: a professional hockey team in Hawaii. Using her knowledge of Hockey and the NHL, Keiana created the Hawaii Lava. She designed the main and secondary logos from scratch and hand picked a color palette that would represent Hawaii and the infamous volcanoes on the islands. Her main goals were to create a team identity that was unique and representative of Hawaii, while still keeping it consistent with other NHL teams. The media that was used and created for this project include digitally designed logos and typography, custom designed stationery including a letter head, envelope and business card, a concept vehicle wrap design (what better than a zamboni?), and as an extra piece, Keiana designed home, away and alternate jerseys for the team.
